AND EXCEPT MULAN FOUGHT FOR HER COUNTRY, NOT A BOY.
right… but she fought and that’s the important thing here… be bad-ass!
Um. Let’s go in order here. Belle is crying because she gave up her life to protect her father. She could have married Gaston and let him be her Prince Charming because all it required was “waiting around” but she didn’t. She would have spent the rest of her life in a tower to protect her father, and get him out of the beasts castle. If you were a prisoner, especially to a horrible, scary, huge, disgusting beast, you’d be crying too.
Ariel? She was crying because she felt like she wasn’t good enough for her father. She was a bit odd and liked collecting things. And sure, one of those “things” happened to be the prince, but she was an outcast to the rest of her family. That’d make you cry, too.
Now, Jasmine, if you do recall, was being forced to marry Jafar when she wanted nothing more than to see the world beyond the palace walls. That’s not “waiting for prince charming” - she didn’t want to get married, but she also knew she wasn’t going to let herself be forced into it by a power-hungry sorcerer.
Aurora is crying because, genius, she just found out her entire life is a lie. And sure, she just found out she’s a princess, but wouldn’t that be a lot to find out on your sixteenth birthday? Not only did she just meet the first man she’s ever laid eyes on, but she was taken from her home, under the cover of night, and put into a completely new life. That’d be enough to make you cry.
Cinderella was deprived of everything her entire life, and forced into slavery by her own stepmother. The one night she does something for herself, takes a chance, it becomes a disaster. She’s sure she’ll be found out. She didn’t wait for prince charming, she was trying to live a life she knew she deserved.
And what the hell? How can you say Mulan did it right when she’s crossed out in the first picture herself? Moral of the story… Just because you cry, just because you’re hurt, just because you are a girl and are experiencing emotions, doesn’t mean it’s because of a boy. Think before you speak.
^ THIS.
Yes, ^ THAT.
THIS.
I had to reblog this.

And, I’m going to take it a step further. Let’s take all this crying into context shall we?
Ariel: crying because not only did her father find and completely destroy her grotto, which was the only place where she could be herself and immerse herself in what she was interested in, he also destroyed the one memento she had of the man she loved. Imagine if you parents just burst into your room and tore down everything private and precious to you.
Jasmine: At this point in the film, Jafar told Jasmine that Aladdin had been beheaded. Not only is she crying because the boy from the market is dead, but he is dead because of her. Also, Aladdin was the only person who could understand and relate to how trapped she felt in her own life. Not only did she think that a name-less boy was killed, but also a kindred spirit and possible lover. And now she has to go through more suitors who won’t give any sort of consideration to what she wants most out of life.
Cinderella: after working herself to the bone to go to the ball and then not being able to, she retreats to her room and gives up on the chance to ever get any kind of enjoyment out of her life. And then she puts on the dress that her only friends made for her (and that was originally made from her mother’s old dress), and her step-mother has to sabotage her by having her spoiled daughters literally tear the dress to shreds. And this is pretty much the last straw of Cinderella’s emotional resolve.
Mulan: crying because she has pretty much been sucked of all her self-worth. She failed her match-making interview (?), which would have been one of her only options of bringing honor to her family. Then, after her father, the one who she wants to please the most, cheers her up, they then find out that he is determined to go to war (which he would most likely be killed in). And after she tries to say that he shouldn’t have to go, he yells at her, saying that she should “know her place”.
Plus, Mulan never really fought for Shang. She really more or less fought with him. Her objective was never to get a man, she just ended up with one as a bonus. (JACKPOT)
Oh, look, I have to reblog this again now because THIS^.

Most animators do this by the way!
“He’s always making the expression that he’s drawing… he’s making the expression even more than what he’s drawing. We didn’t set this up, he’s really doing this.”
